Ryan's Dreamcatcher Birthday
Dream big, little one! Your special day has come, you're one!
How can one year fly by so quickly? It’s hard to believe there was ever me before him because he is so much a part of who I am. I wanted to celebrate every part of him. His laugh, sweet demeanor, curiosity, adventure-seeking ways, determination, and kind heart. Oh and, the way he holds my face when he embraces me is everything. I’m so lucky he chose me as his mama.
We spent the day of Ryan’s birth as a family, mommy, daddy, and Ryan. We woke Ryan up to a big gold 1 balloon, birthday song and obligatory photo shoot in mommy and daddy’s bed. He had a blast jumping and rolling around with his birthday balloon while mommy snapped pics. We had his favorite homemade breakfast, buttery hard-boiled eggs, and then got ready and headed out to celebrate over lunch at LA’s Au Fudge. Let me start off by mentioning the adult drinks with fun names at this place. I had to try the “Milf” which was incredibly refreshing and yummy. Oh, and if you go, do not leave without trying the mouth watering, deliciously grilled cheese sticks! For dessert, we ordered a slice of the chocolate birthday cake which was brought out beautifully on a wood board adorned with frosting that read 'Happy Birthday Ryan August' along with a fun candle and party hat for the birthday boy. After lunch we had the impressive kids play room all to ourselves for about an hour where the birthday boy was in his element with ample toys and space to run around and get wild. Later we met some of our family and friends at our home to continue the celebration with a yummy confetti cake from one of my favorite bakeries, Susie’s Cakes!
Our family day was amazing and so special, but you know we had to have a big party to celebrate the big 1! The theme was Dream Big, Little One and with the help of my friend and event coordinator, Pretty Posh Parties, my vision for a rustic, boho wonderland was brought to life!
Everything came together fairly seamlessly. The biggest challenge was choosing an outdoor venue I loved. After scouting and not loving multiple locations, I discovered Lacy Park in San Marino and as soon as I went I knew it would be the place for the party. With clean, gorgeous landscaping and a ton of greenery, it was the perfect backdrop for a boho chic, kid-friendly event.
Here are the deets! The lovely invites were made to match the theme perfectly by Design on Paper who I discovered on Etsy. MTB Event Rentals provided the farm tables, table runners, chairs and shade umbrellas. I ordered delightful mini sandwiches, salads and other small bites from Hye Market in Glendale. One of the best cake makers, Karina’s Cake House, made the most delicious, creamy, perfectly dreamy off-white vanilla cake which was dressed with fun themed toppers custom made by A Work of Heart. A Work of Heart also made a gorgeous 'Ryan August' birthday banner for the main party table. Sweet, themed desserts were provided by Pink Oven Creations. Dream catchers I ordered in a variety of sizes and designs from Amazon served both as décor and party favors, and I hit up Hobby Lobby for some boho décor to dress the space. I found Jenny, the artist behind Chalkboard Memories, who made the most beautiful custom chalkboard memory board personalized with facts about Ryan for all of the party guests to enjoy and us to have as a keepsake. Ms. Spring of Lovebug and Me Music entertained the littles with live music, bubbles, and other fun props. The gorgeous flower arrangements including a stunning floral 1 (my favorite!) were created by my go-to florist, Designs by Christine, and we’ve got beautiful photos to relive the day over and over thanks to the very talented Ris Photography.
We also celebrated Ryan's first tooth at the party! It's an old Armenian tradition to celebrate when your baby cuts his or her first tooth. The idea is to find out what your baby's future profession will be. We sat Ryan down underneath a ring of dreamcatchers each representing a career he might go into as an adult. Looks like we have a future MD in the family because Ryan selected Doctor.
And then, the birthday boy rode off in his new red Ferrari F12 electric berlinetta, his birthday present from mommy and daddy!
Kisses and a special thank you to all of our loving family and friends who were a part of the special celebration for our first boy, Ryan August. You made the day a memorable and unforgettable one!
