Being Present with Brooke Lichtenstein
Happy Monday, mamas! It's time for another exciting #MomBossMonday feature, and I hope you love hearing from these inspiring mothers and business owners as much as I do.
Today, I'm talking with Brooke Lichtenstein, parenting coach, meditation teacher, and founder of Motherhood Awakened (MA), an online platform for Mothers to learn how to parent with mindfulness. She's also mama to two sweet boys age 3, and 20 months.
MA is a sacred tent where mothers can gather online to breathe, share their experiences, and learn the tools to parent with presence. Through group coaching, audio meditations, and courses, busy Moms can empower themselves with the knowledge to raise empowered children.
Brooke's approach of working from the inside out is what really stood out to me, because the inside work is so important to truly embracing a Happy Mom life.
Brooke started on a spiritual path at a young age. Before having children, she would spend weeks meditating with monks. When she started teaching meditation exclusively to women she said it profoundly transformed her whole life.
HOW BROOKE GAINS INSPIRATION FROM HER OWN CHILDREN & THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING PRESENT
I often ask my #MomBossMonday women how motherhood affects their business and career. For Brooke, motherhood is the very foundation of her work. She's passionate about teaching women how to BREATHE their way through motherhood. And, her children provide endless inspiration for the topics she discusses with her tribe.
“My children help me create the content of my dreams! From bedtime meltdowns to watching my toddler meditate—motherhood has deeply influenced the curriculum for my courses and coaching.”
We talked briefly about balancing work and life as a mother and business owner. Brooke stressed the importance of staying present.
“When I am with my children, I am there. When I am work, I am fully there too. For me, being unbalanced is a consequence of being too scattered. Things flow for me when I give each part of my life the attention that it needs.”
LIFE AS A NEW MOM
Brooke shares how having her first child made her feel like she had been born right there with him.
“Being a new Mother was the most exciting thing next to being a second time Mother. The love I had for my son healed so many parts of me and my heart grew bigger than I'd ever imagine. But I was tired. Really tired.”
Brooke’s advice for new moms is to slow down and rest as much as possible, to just be with your little one. This pace may feel uncomfortable but it will feed you when you're spirit is starving.
Brooke shares about having to reclaim her body post baby. Changing her diet, her workout routine, and even her style to reflect her new life as a mama.
When I asked her how she found herself again after the birth of her children, she shared that the most valuable thing she did was to create a mommy mission statement:
“I created a Mommy Mission Statement and in that agreement, I declared who I was going to be as a woman and a Mother.”
How amazing is a Mommy mission statement?! We should all sit down and declare who we are going to be as a woman and mother.
HOW BROOKE PRACTICES SELF-CARE
Brooke says she does the traditional self-care routine with weekly massages and mani/pedis.
But what has been just as important for Brooke is what she calls her "Soul-Care" —
“I gather with women. Women's circles are a place to bond in sisterhood, share stories, and release what no longer serves us. It's been a weekly mandatory practice for me for some time now.”
HOW BROOKE AND MOTHERHOOD AWAKENED SUPPORT MOMS
Brooke creates impact in the world by offering a free weekly group meditation for Mothers online. She strongly believes our children are the ones who will deliver lasting impact on the world.
THE UPS AND DOWNS OF MOTHERHOOD
I asked Brooke to share with me the #1 thing that overwhelms her as a mom, and I had to laugh and nod along when she immediately said, "Having to cook three meals a day, every single day. I'm running out of ideas and they're just toddlers!”
When I asked her about her favorite part of motherhood, her answer was such a sweet sentiment and reminder for all mothers:
As a mama, you wear so many hats and often need to maintain composure in some crazy situations... Brooke's teachings on how to breathe to be able to conquer life in its many forms is so fascinating, relatable, and useful!
Don’t forget to sign up for the Motherhood Awakened newsletter to find out when her site launches. Until then, though.... I have a special announcement below!
I'm SO excited to share that Brooke Lichtenstein will be joining us on stage on Sunday, May 6th in Los Angeles for the Happy Mom Conference!
This is the premier event for moms who want to make space in their lives to pursue their passions... to start a new career, to open a shop, to grow their businesses to new heights, and to live their happiest life.
GET INSPIRED, GET EMPOWERED, CONNECT!
The birth of a child is one of life’s most joyous events. It provokes an indescribable, out of this world kind of love within us, but it also confronts us with some unpleasant feelings.
We imagine new motherhood to be a magical, love-filled time when we can't stop staring at our newborn, feel more fulfilled than ever, and want to enjoy every moment with the little miracle we've created.
But when you become a mom, your entire life changes overnight... and even though you hear that and you know it might happen, it's completely different to experience it for yourself.
