Talking Children’s Development with Jessica Rolph

Talking Children’s Development with Jessica Rolph

It's #MomBossMonday and today I'm excited to feature Jessica Rolph, mama to three darling children, 7-year-old Leland, 5-year-old Thacher, and 3-year-old Beatrice. Jessica is a Founding Partner of Happy Family, the Co-founder and CEO at Lovevery, and passionate about giving babies the best beginning in life developmentally.

Jessica joined forces with Shazi Visram of Happy Family with a goal of keeping toxins out of babies’ bodies. What started out as an organic baby food line has evolved into so much more. Happy Family now carries an assortment of organic meals and snacks for mamas, babies, tots, and kids.

And after she discovered a doctoral thesis on infant brain development, Jessica realized there was more to nourishing babies than just food.

The thesis had all these detailed, nerdy, cool things that I could do with my baby - that had nothing to do with the toys I had. The thesis broke down what my baby wanted to learn and experience at each stage, and ultimately it made me feel so connected to him.

This experience had such an impact on Jessica that it became the inspiration for Lovevery which offers products and information to help create developmental experiences in the lives of new babies and families. Lovevery helps parents feel confident that they are giving their little ones just what they want and need every step of the way.

"I remember a moment when I was on the floor, hoping to connect and play with my baby. He started pushing buttons on one of those electronic bell and whistles toys, where everything starts happening at once. I distinctly remember feeling disappointed. I was hoping for a moment of connection and instead, there was this toy between us. I found myself wondering what it was doing to help my baby’s development."

I asked Jessica to share her experience of being a new mother, if it was everything she had hoped and imagined it would be, and to share a piece of advice with the expecting and new mamas in the Happy Mom community.

I don’t really think I knew what to expect, having a new baby is the ultimate test of living in the moment. As far as advice goes, try to think about what you can let go of. For me that means an orderly, clutter-free house!

Jessica and I then talked about how she found herself after the birth of her children.

"I don’t think I ever really lost myself, maybe I just developed more dimensions? After becoming a mother I found new levels of meaning in my work because so much of it has stemmed from my experience as a parent. My work grounds me in both my family and my life purpose, and my family and life purpose ground me in my work."

For Jessica, the hardest part is balancing living her life’s purpose to the fullest. It is important that she is present with her children during the longest and, simultaneously, the shortest chapter in her life, as well as being a good friend, feeling a part of a community, taking care of herself, being a good daughter, sister, granddaughter, and wife.

The best part is getting cozy and reading books with my kids. My favorite is when they all 3 crowd around and listen. Even my oldest still loves to be read to, and will be interested in almost any book.

For self-care, Jessica likes to meditate for 5 minutes a day. She sees benefits from the small moments of slowing down. We couldn't agree more on this!

Jessica has exciting goals for Lovevery this summer. They will be launching a new line of developmental products and she can’t wait for the babies of the world to experience them! Her dream for Lovevery is to be a company that gives parents confidence and peace of mind knowing they are giving their little ones just what they need at each stage of development.
